Valley of the Hearts Delight, 2024

Orchard ladder, 3D printed: apricot, leaf and branch, site-specific sound and cement. 56 x 25 x 120 inches _____ Before Cupertino was Silicon Valley it was known as The Valley of the Hearts Delight, a sleepy agricultural area at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains and forty-five minutes south of San Francisco. My parents settled in Cupertino in 1960 in the first track house built on an apricot orchard. For my entire lifetime we have had fruit trees in our backyard. One tree in particular, an apricot tree, stands in a place of reverence. The tree is over 60 years old and struggling in its age. The Last Apricot Tree is documentation and the telling of the history of the place I’m from. Land was paved over in cement, harvesting our digital lives. We all live in Cupertino now.
